I’ve never met a hot spring or a hot dog I didn’t like. Iceland happens to have the best of both. Elfreda doesn’t share my extreme enthusiasm for either of them. She does, however, love chasing waterfalls. Obviously, someone didn’t take the advice of TLC. We chased them right around Iceland’s Golden Circle.
This trip was only a taste of Iceland for us. Upon arriving in Iceland, we picked up our rental car right outside the airport and hightailed outside of the city to see natural Iceland. We visited Gullfoss waterfall and the great geyser. The next day we went to Seljalandfoss falls and then straight up to Jökulsárlón to see the glacier. The following day back down to Kirkjugólf to see the church floor and then to Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon. Our last day we went to Vik and the Reynisfjara basalt columns and then headed to Skogafoss falls.
Two things I completely missed while sitting in the car was Elfreda get shocked by an electric fence while attempting to get photos of the gorgeous Icelandic horses and Elfreda getting Skuaed. Skuas are large bully birds that really don’t like it when you walk into their hood. Elfreda did just that and before she knew this large bird was screaming at her and swooping down right at her. He did two passes at her before she gave up and ran away. Sadly, I was reading the guide book in the car and miss the whole thing.
Like many people, we completely fell in love with Iceland and really look forward to visiting again. We would love to do a longer trip and circle the whole island. Plus, I can’t get enough of those delicious Icelandic Pylsa…or Pulsa. So so good!
